Ways to Give

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the NHA is able to offer our members and visitors an amazing array of engaging experiences—from artifact-rich exhibitions, lively programs, and special events, to interpreted historic sites, walking tours, and educational activities for children and families.

There are a number of ways to support the NHA’s mission to tell the inspiring stories of Nantucket through its collections, programs, and properties. Gifts of all sizes are meaningful and deeply appreciated, and help the NHA thrive as a vibrant year-round, community-centered organization. Gifts may be designated as operating support for unrestricted and restricted purposes, and donations are tax deductible, as allowed by the law.

The NHA’ s 1894 Founders Society provides recognition to individuals who support the NHA at the highest levels and annually contribute $3,000 and above to the NHA’s operations. Donors of $100 and above are recognized in the NHA’s Annual Report.

Give to the Annual Fund

Give Now

The Annual Fund is essential to the NHA because it broadly supports the day-to-day operations, allowing us to open the doors to visitors and the community. Annual Fund gifts will help us continue to meaningfully engage with our diverse audiences and be the leader in sharing Nantucket’s remarkable stories.

Donations may be designated as tribute gifts.

Contribute to a Special Initiative

Give Now

The NHA is advancing a broad-reaching slate of Special Initiatives. Gifts of restricted operating support help us reach our goals for: presenting artifact-rich, changing exhibitions at the Whaling Museum, Research Library, and historic sites; sustaining a vigorous program of new publications; progressing the digitization of the collections at the Research Library and Archives to make them widely available for research and scholarship; expanding year-round internship opportunities for college students; and carrying out a youth mentorship program for Nantucket High School students interested in history and culture to foster learning and working in a professional milieu.

Donations may be designated as tribute gifts.

Make a Planned Gift

The Heritage Society recognizes individuals who invest in the NHA’s future by making planned gifts through their will or estate plan. Planned gifts take many forms—from donations of cash, securities, life insurance, retirement assets, and real estate to bequests of important artifacts of Nantucket provenance. New Heritage Society members are recognized at the Annual Meeting and presented with an ivory whale pin. For more information about the Heritage Society, please contact the Development Department at plannedgiving@nha.org. or (508) 228-1894.

Donate to the Collections

Donate to the Collections

Since it was founded in 1894, the NHA has relied on individuals to donate important artifacts, paintings, textiles, letters, diaries, logbooks, and books of Nantucket provenance to build the collections, preserve them on island, and make them accessible through exhibitions, publications, and digitization. Artifacts may be contributed outright or give as promised gifts and bequests.
