Students will be carving and detailing a feather they will design. They will sketch and cutout from sheet of Basswood, sand, shape, then burn in the detail with burning pens. Then paint in their choice of colors and patterns. I will have several samples, patterns and references available along with pins you can attach to backs to create wearable art.

Bill Sarni is well known for his decoy carvings, with their meticulous attention to detail, and his restoration work. He began carving as a boy and received training from many celebrated decoy carvers. He has been featured in several publications and selected for interview by the Folk Arts and Heritage Program initiated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
