Christmas in August: Santa Theorem Painting with Bee Shay

In the 1800’s itinerant artists traveled the country teaching stenciling and painting to young women who couldn’t afford to be schooled in the domestic arts any other way.

Join us for a taste of historical folk art with a contemporary flavor. These Santa designs were created by instructor Bee Shay. With them you can create cards, ornaments and framed gifts for the holidays.

We will work on both cotton velveteen in the traditional manner, and watercolor paper. You will have a choice of designs to work with. All materials including one frame included.

Maximum class size: 10

Bee Shay has been a folk artist and oil painter for almost thirty years, teaching theorem painting, stenciling, and faux finishes nationally since 1991. She has apprenticed under members of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration. For nearly ten years she was involved in the Stencil Artisans League, Inc. (SALI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching and furthering traditional American folk art. Currently, Bee is a resident of Nantucket and continues teaching nationally.

The Nantucket Historical Association preserves and interprets the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties, in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
