Little Bit of Sunshine Sailors’ Valentine with Suzanne Marie Dietsch

Learn many of the basic techniques used in creating a Sailors Valentine.  This class is designed with a simple pattern with a large single flower center in a 6” valentine box. It has been designed as a quick, one day class for beginners, those on a tight schedule, or those that struggle with tiny shells.  Bring your lunch.

Suzanne Marie Dietsch is a multi-time first place and best-in-show recipient in the most competitive shell competitions in the country:  Philadelphia, Sarasota and Sanibel.  She is known for her creative, three-dimensional approach to this craft.  Her goal is to honor the nautical folk-art history of Sailors Valentines while creating a more personal, contemporary spin to this treasured 1800’s art form. Suzanne has a deep appreciation for nature’s artistry and enjoys the intricate, mosaic expressions that can be created with seashells.  She is self-taught and creates each design one tiny seashell at a time.

The Nantucket Historical Association preserves and interprets the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties, in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
