Sea Shell Mirror with Mary Emery Lacoursiere

Create a one of a kind decorative mirror using seashells from around the world.  Many of the techniques used in sailors’ valentines are transferable, and there is plenty of room for expanding creative ideas.  Your finished mirror size is 16″ x 20″.

All materials are provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own treasures to incorporate into their masterpiece.

Mary Emery Lacoursiere graduated from Pratt Institute with an M.F.A. in printmaking and painting. She had a studio in New York City for fifteen years, specializing in hand-painted sisal rugs, murals, and restoring historical painting. A member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration since 1978, Mary has been a contributing artist for Lifetime Television and Hearst Entertainment and currently owns and operates Emery Design here on Nantucket. She is also the director of Education at the Nantucket Historical Association.

The Nantucket Historical Association preserves and interprets the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties, in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
