Roger Rosenblatt is a prolific writer and long-time essayist for Time magazine and PBS NewsHour. He has won two George Polk Awards, a Peabody Award, and an Emmy. His first novel, Lapham Rising, was a national bestseller. He is the author of six off-Broadway plays and nineteen books, including five New York Times Notable Books, and the bestsellers, Making Toast and Kayak Morning, among others. In 2015, he received the Kenyon Review Award for lifetime literary achievement.

On Friday, May 12, 2017, at 6 P.M., Rosenblatt will offer a special lecture to the Nantucket community at the Whaling Museum, discussing his life as a writer and his experiences in the literary world over the past four decades. Rosenblatt will discuss the themes of originality, inspiration, and imagination, and recount the surprising turns his writing life has taken over the years. Tickets for this lecture at the Whaling Museum are $10 per person.

The next morning on Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 9 A.M. to Noon, Rosenblatt will lead a special three-hour creative writing workshop for writers of all abilities at the NHA’s Greater Light historic property at 8 Howard Street. Tickets for this workshop are $25 per person and light refreshments will be served.

“We are grateful for the Hall-Froelich Foundation’s generous support, which allows us to bring such talented, creative minds to the Nantucket community,” says Marjan Shirzad, NHA Sacerdote Chair of Education and Outreach. “Hosting Roger Rosenblatt at the Whaling Museum as well as the more intimate setting of Greater Light offers Nantucketers two opportunities to learn about his craft and explore their own creativity in one very special weekend.”

These creative community programs are presented with generous support from the Hall-Froelich Foundation.
