NANTUCKET, MA – The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) is pleased to announce a series of educational trips to museums and historic sites. Popular in the past, Exploration Trips take visitors to places and cultures with a connection to Nantucket’s rich history.
In April, the NHA collaborated with the Olana Partnership on a trip highlighting historic ties between Hudson, New York and Nantucket during the height of the whaling industry, as well as the development of the Hudson art movement, and the Hudson River School. The trip included a historic walking tour of downtown Hudson, a landscape tour of the Olana State Historic Site, a tour of the Frederic Church House, and a tour of the Thomas Cole House. In addition to personalized tours, the group enjoyed delicious food, shopping, and the unique scenery of the Hudson River Valley.
In partnership with with Sagras Vacations, NHA will host a thrilling trip to the beautiful archipelago of the Azores from October 5-12, 2018. Participants will learn of Nantucket’s rich history with the Azores, the presence and relocation of Nantucketers to these islands, and how this culture has influenced the Nantucket of today. The multi-city trip will include private tours of museums and historic sites, special dinners and shows, and scenic hikes. In addition to structured tours and activities, participants will have time to explore the area independently.
Sagras Vacations will conduct an information session at the Whaling Museum on May 21 at 6:00 PM for those who are interested in further details of the NHA Explorations Trip to the Azores. Space is limited to 20 people and reservations are required by June 24, 2018.
