NHA & TWN present Orson Welles’s Moby-Dick Rehearsed August 9 - 12 at the Whaling Museum

Moby-Dick RehearsedNANTUCKET, MA – The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA), in partnership with Theatre Workshop of Nantucket (TWN), is pleased to announce the triumphant return of the staged reading of Moby-Dick Rehearsed starring John Shea, August 9 – 12, 2016, at the Whaling Museum, 13 Broad Street.

Written by Orson Welles, Moby-Dick Rehearsed celebrates the enduring legacy of Herman Melville’s masterpiece of American literature and was first performed in 1955 at the Duke of York Theatre in London. The NHA and TWN’s adaptation of this moving play, directed by and starring TWN Artistic Director Emeritus John Shea as Captain Ahab, comes alive under the 46-foot sperm whale skeleton in the Whaling Museum’s Gosnell Hall. Featuring a cast of community actors, the play evokes the essence of the ocean and turbulent life aboard a whaleship, as Ahab follows his obsession to find the great white whale.

"We are bringing Welles's Moby-Dick Rehearsed back to the halls of the Whaling Museum for the sixth consecutive summer and it has become a Nantucket tradition,” says Marjan Shirzad, NHA Sacerdote Chair of Education and Outreach. “We are beyond excited to partner with TWN again and we love welcoming our guests back to this dramatic performance, which features top-notch acting in an unforgettable venue. New audiences have never seen Ahab quite like this and returning audiences know they are in for a performance of a lifetime!"

Moby-Dick Rehearsed will run at the Whaling Museum August 9 – 12, 2016. On the closing night, August 12, 2016, attendees will enjoy the performance followed by a reception and meet & greet with the cast.

“Theatre Workshop of Nantucket is proud to collaborate with the NHA on another fantastic production of Moby-Dick Rehearsed,” says Jonathan Jensen, TWN Managing Director. “Our partnership, which brings this epic story to life and reaches hundreds of islanders annually, provides a not-to-be-missed experience with two of Nantucket’s premiere cultural institutions.”

All performances will begin promptly at 7 P.M., with doors opening at 6:30 P.M.
