NANTUCKET, MA – The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA), in partnership with Theatre Workshop of Nantucket (TWN), is pleased to announce a staged reading of Witness for the Prosecution on Friday, September 23, and Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 6 P.M. at the NHA’s Quaker Meeting House, 7 Fair Street.
Witness for the Prosecution, Agatha Christie’s iconic short story, is a murder mystery that will leave audiences at the edge of their “pews” until the very last moments. Christie, the best-selling novelist of all time, is famous for works such as And Then There Were None, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Mousetrap. The play is directed by TWN Artistic Director Justin Cerne.
“We are elated to collaborate with TWN for another production at the Quaker Meeting House,” says Brianne Roth, NHA Public Programs Coordinator. “The Quaker Meeting House provides the perfect setting for this murder mystery, and we can’t wait to share this experience with the Nantucket community.”
"TWN is thrilled to continue the tradition of bringing classic courtroom dramas to vivid life at the NHA's stimulating and inspiring Old Quaker Meeting House,” says Justin Cerne, TWN Artistic Director. "TWN is thrilled to continue the tradition of bringing classic courtroom dramas to vivid life at the NHA's stimulating and inspiring Old Quaker Meeting House. Join us for an evening of intrigue, surprises and twists that you won't soon forget!"
Constructed by the Society of Friends as a school in 1838, the Quaker Meeting House is the island’s last surviving meeting house. Purchased from the Friends by the NHA in 1894, it was used as the association’s first museum until the fireproof building was erected on Fair Street, now the NHA Research Library. In the 1940s, Quakers on Nantucket formed a worship group and began to meet informally once again in the meeting house.
Space is limited. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at www.nha.org/tickets or by calling (508) 228-1894.
