NANTUCKET, MA — The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) is thrilled to announce that renowned AD 100 interior designer, Nate Berkus, will be appearing live at its signature keynote luncheon during the sixth annual Nantucket by Design (NBD) event held from August 5 through 7. Attendees at all NBD events will have the option to attend in person or virtually via Zoom.
As the NHA’s premier fundraiser, Nantucket by Design celebrates the island’s unique influence on American design with engaging keynote speakers, lively discussions, a design panel, and a partnership with The Nantucket Summer Antiques Show.
“Our theme this year is Renewal, and we look forward to incredible discussions about how design can renew not just a home but also a spirit, as well how to renew our treasured antique homes in a thoughtful way for modern life,” says Kelly Williams, NBD chair. “We are excited about our entire line-up of designers this year and cannot wait to welcome them in person and virtually to Nantucket.”
Award-winning interior designer Nate Berkus will speak in person at the Opening Keynote Design Luncheon on August 5. Since he first appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2002, he has become one of the world’s most recognizable interior designers, transforming countless homes around the world through his design work, home collections, books, and television shows. Berkus is also well-known for his socially responsible approach to design, and the Nate Berkus scholarship was established at the New York School of Interior Design in his honor to support students in their pursuit of a career committed to impactful design.
Renowned interior designer Alexa Hampton will join us in a videotaped discussion on how to incorporate antiques into modern interiors with Arie Kopelman, former NHA Board Chair and honorary chair with his wife, Coco Kopelman, of The Nantucket Summer Antiques Show Preview Party. NBD ticket holders will be invited to attend the show Preview Party at the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club on the evening of August 5.
Internationally-known architect Pietro Cicognani and Isabella Rossellini, the actress, filmmaker, writer, and style icon, will take us on a videotaped tour of the amazing adaptation they have done of an antique barn and farmhouse in Bellport, Long Island. Pietro will join us live on the morning of August 6, to discuss the process and his collaboration with Isabella.
NBD’s All-Star Design Panel will be moderated in the afternoon on August 6, by Steele Marcoux, editor-in-chief of Veranda magazine. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to talk about renewal and what that means for our homes and our relationships with our homes with three all-star designers—Philip Gorrivan, Philip Mitchell, and Joy Moyler,” says Marcoux. “Their insight and experience promise to make for a dynamic conversation.”
Nantucket by Design will wrap up on August 7, with AD 100 designer Corey Damen Jenkins, who will be on island to present our Closing Keynote. Among his many accolades, Jenkins was voted winner of HGTV’s Showhouse Showdown competition. This year he published his first coffee-table book, Design Remix: A New Spin on Traditional Rooms.
NBD ticketholders will also be invited on the evening of August 7 to the Nantucket Historical Association’s Whaling Museum during cocktail hour to enjoy drinks and music while strolling through new exhibitions and iconic collections.
