Captain William Baxter (1805– ) was born to Reuben and Love (Briggs) Baxter and married Betsey (Cary). This collection includes a handwritten copy of an article relating to Baxter’s activities as ship captain and seaman on voyages of various Nantucket whaling ships which appeared in the “Nantucket Journal” on 7 September 1893.

Scope and Content

A handwritten copy of an article relating to Baxter’s activities as ship captain and seaman on voyages of various Nantucket whaling ships which appeared in the “Nantucket Journal” on 7 September 1893. Includes information concerning a mutiny on the ship Milo; sea life on the ship Ploughboy captained by Nathan Chase; and his duties as mate and later captain on the ship Martha (1835-1841).
