Biographical Information

The District and Port of Nantucket, Mass., issued permanent licenses to vessels above twenty tons, allowing them to carry on the coasting trade for one year.

Scope and Content

The Coastal Trading Licenses ollection includes licenses that not only name the vessel and master and give the date of licensing, but also name the people who have given bond, the place of enrollment, and the tonnage of the vessel.

All licenses, with the exception of one license from 1846, are from 1854.
