Summary

The Lt. Max Wagner Encampment, Nantucket Auxiliary, was formed on 7 May 1934 as an all-female support organization to the Lt. Max Wagner Encampment, U.S.W.V., an organization of veterans of the Spanish–American War. This collection includes the Lt. Max Wagner Encampment, Nantucket Auxiliary’s membership records and meeting minutes concerning activities to honor veterans and raise money for their medical care.

Biographical Information

The Lt. Max Wagner Encampment, Nantucket Auxiliary, was formed by Annie L. Fitch and Alice M. Henderson, department president and senior vice-president of the United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary on 7 May 1934 as an all-female support organization to the Lt. Max Wagner Encampment, U.S.W.V., an organization of veterans of the Spanish–American War. The organization honored veterans of the Spanish–American War by raising funds for veteran medical care, obtaining trophies for the battleship USS Oregon, and conducting essay contests. 

Scope and Content

This collection includes the Lt. Max Wagner Encampment, Nantucket Auxiliary’s membership records and meeting minutes concerning activities such as the Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Convention, United Spanish War Veterans Convention, and the Selectmen Military Ball
