Biographical Information
Robert Stackpole (1911–2007) was born in New Haven, Conn., in 1911, to Charles Henry Stackpole and Mary Woodbury Sylvia Stackpole. For much of his life, he spent seasonal summers in Nantucket, Mass., with his step-brothers and -sisters from his father’s first marriage to Therese Mauduit. While travelling between these two communities and around New England, Stackpole collected postcards of local tourist sites to send to his friends and family.
Scope and Content
Collection contains postcards collected by Robert Stackpole, including correspondence with family in Nantucket, Mass. and New Haven, Conn. The majority of the collection consists of blank postcards. Postcards with notes are addressed to “mother and father” (Charles Henry and Mary Sylvia Stackpole), Emily Gilbert (a close friends in New Haven), Jennie Thomas Sylvia (Robert’s grandmother), other Stackpole relatives, and friends in the two communities.
