Robert Stackpole (1911–2007) was born in New Haven, Conn., in 1911, to Charles Henry Stackpole and Mary Woodbury Sylvia Stackpole. For much of his life, he spent seasonal summers in Nantucket, Mass., with his step-brothers and -sisters from his father’s first marriage to Therese Mauduit. While travelling between these two communities and around New England, Stackpole collected postcards of local tourist sites to send to his friends and family.
