Discovery Center

The Discovery Center, created as an interactive imaginary experience for children in an 18th century town, is now transformed into a children’s museum. Town vignettes, have added artifacts from the NHA collections, giving an authentic layer to the interactive foundation of the original concept. Daily activities, that were a staple of the Discovery Center experience, are now available as Sail Away Kits; each with a project, instructions, and materials.

Opening this summer is the Discovery Park, featuring a catboat, lighthouse, and bathymetric and topographic Nantucket map (where kids can sail a balsawood boat), are just a few features to enjoy.

The Nantucket Railroad model, along with a map train table and large video screen, occupies the front space where guests can sit and work on their kits or take them home, enjoy the train model, and watch historic videos. Don’t miss the Build a Boat Kit, available at Sarg’s Curiosity Shop. Put your model together and head through the town to the outdoor park where there are more activities and a Biometric map water table where you can sail your boat.

We welcome guests in small groups to enjoy the Discovery Center where safety protocols will be followed between visitors for everyone’s safety and ease.

Bookings for your own private time to use the space with your family is available upon request. Contact for information.
