Food for Thought: NHS Youth Climate Committee

Join the Nantucket High School Youth Climate Committee with Sarah Swenson, Ellie Kinsella, Dylan Marks, Taylor Bistany, and Anna Popnikolova.

Nantucket High School students share their thoughts and perspectives on the Climate Crisis, exploring how they expect climate change to impact their lives and careers.

Nantucket Youth Climate Committee was created by a group of four Nantucket High School students with the support of Mass Audubon’s Nantucket Wildlife Sanctuaries, and its Youth Climate Leadership Program, in the Spring of 2020. In partnership with Mass Audubon, the NYCC has grown more than six-fold in the past year and has led several community engagement events to facilitate meaningful discussion and action to address the climate crisis.

To begin this academic year, NYCC president, Sarah Swenson, sparked a passion for youth climate activism in over 30 of her peers, which led to a youth-led climate walkout during school, in coordination with Greta Thunberg’s “Fridays For Future” movement to raise awareness about climate change impacts on our Island.

The Nantucket Youth Climate Committee is dedicated to supporting a culture and community on-island that has the passion and knowledge to overcome expected threats of the climate crisis and make our Island and our planet a safer place.
