Hands-on-History

Join us this summer for history-themed crafts at the Whaling Museum Discovery Center, offered every week Monday-Friday.

Learn about the history of Nantucket through guided craft activities, perfect for ages 5–12.

Mondays: Herb Sachets

Combine your own blend of dried herbs, inspired by the Oldest House Kitchen Garden in a hand decorated muslin sachet.

Tuesday: Scratch Board Scrimshaw

Try your hand at creating an original design on a scratchboard “tooth”.

Wednesday: Watercolor Whales

Explore color and texture, while learning about different types of whales with this painterly craft.

Thursday: Collage Postcards

Create a souvenir to keep, or mail to a friend using cut paper collage to create a one-of-a-kind postcard.

Friday: Sailors Valentines

Design a pattern using seashells on a wooden octagon base, inspired by the traditional maritime keepsake.

The Nantucket Historical Association preserves and interprets the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties, in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
