Hands-on-History

Join us in the Discovery Room at the Whaling Museum for a daily children’s craft activity.

All Hands-on-History activities are free with museum admission.

We have fun, themed crafts for each day of the week!

Maria Monday: Create a paper telescope and follow the clues to learn more about Maria Mitchell.

Tinker Tuesday: Make a pinwheel pencil or a jumping jack.

Whale Wednesday: Make your own “scrimshaw” or whale magnet.

Throwback Thursday: Create a paper quilled sheep, or Colonial-inspired toy or board game.

Knot-ACK-Al Friday: Make a sailors’ knot bracelet of your initials out of signal flags.

Museum-And-Seek Saturday: Learn how to use a compass and map to navigate, then explore the museum using your own map.

Shell Sunday: Make a sailors’ valentine or seashell wind-chime
