The Oldest House Anniversary Celebration

Join us to celebrate the 100th anniversary since the NHA purchased the Oldest House in 1923!

This program will showcase the Oldest House, one of Nantucket’s iconic landmark sites.

Attendees can participate in activities exploring the history and surroundings of the Oldest House, including demonstrations and an artifact table.

The Oldest House on Sunset Hill, also known as the Jethro Coffin House, was built in 1686 and is believed to be the oldest residence on Nantucket still on its original site. The island’s English population at the time totaled several hundred, and the native Wampanoag outnumbered them by at least three to one. Learn more

The Nantucket Historical Association preserves and interprets the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties, in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
