The Old Mill Anniversary Celebration

Join us to celebrate the 125th anniversary since the NHA purchased the Old Mill in 1897!


This program will showcase the Old Mill, one of Nantucket’s iconic landmark sites.

  • Attendees can participate in activities exploring the history and operation of the mill, including demonstrations and an artifact table.
  • Crafts featuring the mill and utilizing corn byproducts will also be offered.
  • Members of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe will be joining us in this celebration to share several native traditions around harvest.
  • Locally owned Snick Snack truck will sell concessions, offering special cornmeal-based nibbles for the program.

    Old Mill 1880sBuilt in 1746, the Old Mill was sold twice before it appeared on the auction block in 1897, when the NHA purchased the property for $885. Believed to be the oldest American windmill in continuous operation, the Old Mill was desig­nated an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1992.
