The USS Nantucket Commissioning Committee and the officers and crew of Nantucket have invited the Nantucket community to participate in this special ceremony. Join us to learn how Nantucket history is symbolized and honored in the uniquely-designed crest; and to hear about planning efforts for the Commissioning Ceremony, to be scheduled in the next 18–24 months. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the crew members who will bring the ship to life.

The United States Navy christened the Nantucket, one of its newest Freedom-variant littoral combat ships (LCS), on August 7, in Marinette, Wisconsin.

“The USS Nantucket is the third U.S. Navy ship commissioned to honor the maritime history and spirit of Nantucket,” said Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Harker. “I have no doubt the Sailors of USS Nantucket (LCS 27) will carry on the proud legacy from generations past in preserving sea lanes, countering instability, and maintaining our maritime superiority.”

The Nantucket Historical Association preserves and interprets the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties, in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
