Virtual Event: History of the Thomas Macy House

Join us to learn about the Thomas Macy House, located at 99 Main Street. Built around 1800 by Valentine Swain as a typical three-bay house, the house passed to Thomas Macy during the prosperity of Nantucket’s whaling days. Macy enlarged the house, embellishing it with Federal ornamentation, and it stayed in his family for generations. In the twentieth century, Jacqueline Harris and her family owned the house for decades before donating it to the Nantucket Historical Association.

Tune in to learn more about this stately home and the families who lived there.

The Nantucket Historical Association preserves and interprets the history of Nantucket through its programs, collections, and properties, in order to promote the island’s significance and foster an appreciation of it among all audiences.
